AUTHOR GUIDELINES
I. Preparing your manuscript
- Authors preparing their manuscript for submission should first consider if their manuscript would be a good fit for readership of the journal.
- Ethical guidelines prohibit the submission of manuscripts that are under consideration by another periodical.
- Manuscript style and format must conform to the guidelines in the latest edition of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association.
- All manuscripts should be written using Microsoft Word and should be submitted via email. Manuscripts should not exceed 5,000 words.
- All manuscripts will be considered under a blind review process. Thus, the author(s)’ name with position, title, and place of employment should appear only on the cover page.
- Double-space all material, including references. All manuscripts should be written in Currier 12pt font.
- Shorten article titles so that they do not exceed 50 letters and spaces.
- Avoid footnotes wherever possible.
- References should follow the style described in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, 6th Ed.
II. Content Format
Include an abstract of 150 words or less with each copy of the manuscript. The statement should express the central idea of the article and should engage the reader’s interest. Abstracts should not contain direct quotes from the body of the manuscript.
- Research section: Manuscripts should include a brief introduction; a condensed review of relevant literature; a detailed methodology section; results; discussion; and implications for counseling practice. Please be sure to report effect size for quantitative manuscripts.
- Practice section: Manuscripts should include a theoretical overview; report on or describe new practices, experimental programs, or innovative techniques; provide any research relative to the theory/technique; and provide implications for counseling practice.
- Reviews: Reviews of a new book; a recent article in a professional journal; or a new test or inventory are encouraged.
Manuscripts should be well organized and concise so that the development of ideas is logical. Avoid dull stereotyped writing and communicate ideas clearly. Please be advised that our readership is composed mainly of practitioners.
III. Submitting Your Manuscript
- Authors must prepare and format their manuscript according to the Journal author guidelines. Authors may only submit manuscripts that are not in consideration for publication in another journal.
- Manuscripts should be thoroughly reviewed to ensure correct grammar and adherence to APA format requirements before submission.
- Authors must complete the Manuscript Submission Form and submit it with their manuscript electronically to jcrp@mc.edu.
Submit all manuscripts electronically to:
